When you caught my eye

You were so shy

You barely talked

And alone you walked

I saw the signs

But I told myself nein

I half thought you liked me

And half thought it silly

Now two years later

We know each other better

You were my friend but not my crush

Still, seeing you gave me a rush

Then one day my best friend ran past

And told me the feeling you had

I stood there blinking

And went to class blinking

If I had told you then

Way back when

But we're just friends now

Still, my thought was "wow"

I still had thoughts of you

Going out? You didn't want to

But there was another besides you

And you knew it was true

You didn't hate me

You said we couldn't be

You still liked me

And wanted me to be happy

Your friend helped me get closer

Closer to her

Now I see her daily

While you smile faintly

But I kept coming back

Because of your knack

Of making me smile

Even after a while

You were so helpful
