Friendship: Not a Love Story
Written by, Maggie Wu
Nate and Lexa
were the perfect couple. Both were popular, attractive, and really rude jerks.
They’ve been dating since middle school and never broke up since. They were
also voted best and everlasting couple. Everyone thought they were a couple
that would never break up. Nate and Lext… there was
nothing left to say. Everything was going well, until the day Brianna came.
It was their
junior year in high school and a new student came. Her name was Brianna.
Brianna was no one special. She was an Einstein-ette,
so Lexa didn’t care about her. Let’s take a look at
Nate and Brianna’s past… You’re probably thinking, Nate and Brianna have a past? Yes, they
have a past, now just shut up and read.
“Brianna, what do
you mean you have to move?!” cried Nate.
“I’m sorry, but I
have to Nate.” Said Brianna.
“Why Brianna?”
“Bye Nate.” *beep
beep beep*
Flashback over. Not back to classroom. *ring* There’s the
bell.
“Nate, wait up!
Do you remember me?”
“Of course I do,
Brianna. How have you been?”
“Great! You?”
“I’ve been good.”
“How about I give
you my number and we talk after school?”
“Okay!”
Nate did call
Brianna later. They spent a lot of time talking about their lives and what
happened in the past couple of years. They planned a lot of events together and
had a lot of fun. Their connection was like they never separated in elementary
school.
Nate pretended to
be bad at math so Brianna could tutor him. They had a lot of fun together. That
brought them close and closer. Pretty soon, Lexa caught on and found out that
then used to know each other. Nate told Lexa he wanted to break up. She said
‘okay’ and they lived happily ever after. Yeah, right. Lexa threw a fit and
demanded to know why. She already knew it was because of Brianna and wanted to
destroy her. After two months, she got over it and moved on.
The next day at
school Nate called Brianna because he felt she was hiding something from him.
Brianna kept her mouth shut and told him nothing was wrong. She had a heart
disease that couldn’t be cured. The only reason she moved when they were
younger was because she needed to go to England and be treated and observed by
doctors. She cried and cried while she was talking to him, and pretty soon,
Nate made her tell him the truth.
Brianna was going
to die in one month. She wanted to make the most of it. Nate spent the next
month just with Brianna and he helped her through all the seizures and attacks
she had. One month passed very quickly and Brianna was ready. She wrote her
good-bye letters, visited all of her cousins and friends, and hugged her
parents. On that very night, she died.
Brianna’s parents
called Nate’s parents. They told him and he took it pretty well. Nate changed a
lot. He didn’t throw nerds into the trash cans anymore. He stopped mocking the
teachers, and he even improved in school. He later went to college, which was
not planned, and became a doctor. He was a heart doctor and tried to fix and
find cures for heart diseases. Brianna made that difference. She changed his
entire life and he never forgot Brianna or ever found someone who could ever
replace her.
