SUPERINTENDENT’S UPDATE
Dear Parents, Staff and Community: As we continue to provide you with information about matters affecting or involving our School District, the following is an update. Our budget for 2009-2010 still has not been finalized. The Legislature and Governor have not been able to reach agreement as to how to balance the State Budget. Hopefully agreement can be reached soon. In our May update to you, we informed you our Facilities Committee would assist in selecting a Program Manger with respect to our bond funds for renovation and modernization of our facilities. We now have selected a Program Manager company, BLACH Construction Company and want to thank the Facilities Committee members for their cooperation and expertise. BLACH Construction has worked with several school districts within the County and beyond. As part of our summer facilities program, carpeting work will begin this summer at Green Hills. Also our Field Agreement with the City is resulting in summer work at Lomita Park, Meadows and Spring Valley. There are Field work drawings posted in the front office area of each of these schools. GATE and Math Language Arts and Literacy Academy Summer School Programs are taking place this summer. We are pleased to continue these programs while several districts have cancelled Summer School. The last day for Summer school will be July 15th at Lomita Park, and the last day for GATE will be July 17th at Spring Valley. We would like to thank involved parents, teachers, support staff, and principals for their hard work in supporting the Millbrae Education Foundation (MEF) walk-a-thon fundraiser. Registration for new students for Fall is available based upon the following schedule: Kindergarten through 5th Grade Registration for children entering Kindergarten in August, 2009 and for new students, grades 1 through 5 will be accepted as follows: At the
District Office, 555 Richmond Drive (7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.): If you will be registering your child/children at an elementary school on Friday, please go to the school where your home address is within that school’s boundaries. At the
elementary school sites (7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.): 6th through 8th Grade Registration for students entering grades 6th through 8th will be at Taylor Middle School beginning August 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The same residency, age, immunization and health exam requirements for K-5 students apply to 6-8 grade students. The first day of school will be Monday, August 31st, 2009. Even with the continuing financial uncertainty, with your understanding and cooperation, we will strive to maintain and improve our educational programs and services for our children. I hope you are enjoying your summer. Sincerely,
Shirley Martin, Ed.D. |
