ELD, English Language Development Program:

Spring Valley's ELD (English Language Development) Program is for students learning English when their Primary Language, or their first language experience is in another language.

English Language Learners (ELL) at Spring Valley School receive instruction in small groups from teachers who have a CLAD credential, have completed the SB 1969 certification or are in training. Students are identified as eligible for the English Language Development Program by their home language survey and results from the California English Language Test (CELDT). Students are moved to new levels as they pass the required CELDT test levels. ELD students are classified as fluent English proficient after a Redesignation Team determines they are ready for English only instruction. State approved Hampton Brown instructional materials as well as other appropriate materials are used in all grade levels.
