Millbrae School District Special
Programs:
SCHOOL LIBRARIES
ll of our school libraries are fully automated,
which means that our library collections are electronically catalogued.
Accessing library collections from a networked computer is an important
technological skill our students will need to learn so that they are
prepared to access public libraries and libraries in institutions of
higher learning. Our library technicians provide service to all of our
schools, K-8.
COMPUTER
LABS
ll of our schools, K-8, have up-to-date computer labs with Internet
connection. The labs provide our students with technology skills they
will need in the 21st century.
MUSIC
PROGRAM
ur District music teachers travel to all of our schools and provide
instruction in playing a musical instrument for students in grades 4-8.
Concert performances are given during the school year, and parents and
the community are invited. This program is an elective.
READING
SPECIALIST PROGRAM
tudents in our primary grades who need additional support in reading
skills receive special instruction from a credentialed reading teacher
on a pull-out tutorial basis. This program is partially funded by
special categorical funding.
ENGLISH
LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
(ELD)
tudents who are limited English-speaking receive special assistance to
develop their skills in English. ‘English Learner’ students are
identified and tested at each school site and then placed in classes
where they receive instruction according to their proficiency level. All
students also receive instruction in the Core academic subjects. Parents
are notified and updated on student progress and are invited to school-
and district-level meetings to learn more about the program. This
program is partially funded by Economic Impact Aid (EIA—State funding);
Emergency Immigrant Education Act (EIEA—Federal funding); English
Language Acquisition Program (ELAP—Federal funding). Our goal is that
all limited-English-speaking students attain English proficiency and
meet the same challenging academic content standards as English-speaking
students.
TITLE I PROGRAM
tudents who need support in reading, language,
and math skills due to cultural, language, or environmental factors
receive remedial assistance from credentialed teachers. Parents are
notified and invited to school and district-level meetings. This program
is funded by Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA—Federal
funding) and Improving America’s Schools Act (IASA-Federal funding). The
schools that currently receive Title I funding are Lomita Park, Green
Hills, and Taylor.
