Practice Tips
Have a set of goals for each practice session.
Analyze carefully each passage you are practicing before you
play.
Practice the parts you can't play first, then other passages.
Play slowly before you practice up to tempo.
Break up homework with practicing to break the monotony and get both things done.
Questions about practice records or progress - please contact a music teacher - we want to help!
Tips for Playing With Braces
When playing the flute, use a smaller embouchure and be aware it will be harder to play higher notes.
When playing the clarinet or saxophone, don't bite too hard just after your braces have been tightened.
When playing brass instruments, consider using wax and set your embouchure carefully.
Make sure to brush your teeth each time before you play and never eat prior to playing or practicing.
Remember that even though it hurts, it will get better, so hang in there!
Special thanks to Sarah and David for contributing their ideas here!
Music & Academics
Studying music can help in other academic areas, such as
mathematics, reading and writing.
Please practice and remember that music improves your academic success.
Consider that practicing is like homework - if you don't practice you won't improve. Stick with it!
Students of music traditionally score higher on academic
achievement tests.
Learning to work as a team member will be beneficial to being a
better worker as an adult.
Music supports your academic subjects, so you aren't wasting time
when you practice!
Music is a learning discipline that can apply toward good study habits.
Methods you use to learn a new piece of music can help in learning other academic subjects.
