EDUCATOR RECRUITMENT FAIR SMCOE 2018 Recruitment Fair

The San Mateo County Office of Education is pleased to host the 2018 Educator Recruitment Fair.  Come and meet representatives from public school districts recruiting for PK-12 teachers, prospective teachers, substitute teachers, and certificated administrative positions throughout San Mateo County.  Workshops and information will be available on how to become a teacher and/or substitute teacher, credentialing and Induction.

Informal interviews will be held onsite so come dressed in interview attire and bring 25 copies of your current resume. All PK-12 teachers, prospective teachers, substitute teachers and certificated administrators are welcome to attend this event.

The Millbrae School District is proud to announce that the Millbrae Board of Education and the San Mateo County Office of Education have both approved the District's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). The LCAP and accompaning multi-year budgets are due to the County Office of Education for approval by June 30th. Objection to Release of Student Data – Due April 1, 2016 - The California Department of Education (CDE) is currently involved in a lawsuit in which the court ordered CDE to produce confidential student information related to all students who have attended a California school since January 1, 2008.  This order may result in a release of your student’s confidential information.  To object to this release of information, parents must fill out and mail an objection form to the court no later than April 1, 2016.  The form and further information is available in both English and Spanish on the CDE’s website at: http://www.cde.ca.gov/morganhillcase

Smarter Balanced Assessment & CAASPP Released 2014-2015 Scores

Dear Millbrae Community,

 

The results of last spring's state tests (the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress or CAASPP) were released to the public.  As you may recall, the spring 2015 CAASPP administration was a combination of online and paper-pencil assessments:  online tests in English and Math aligned to the new state standards in grades 3 through 8, and paper-based tests in science in grades 5 and 8 aligned to the old standards.  The California Department of Education's web page has the statewide, county, district, and school level reports for the spring 2015 administration. The Millbrae School District is participating in California Thursday program.  This is a collaboration between the Center for Ecoliteracy and participating school districts to serve healthy, freshly prepared school meals made from California-grown food.  Here in Millbrae, a new twist was added. Ms. Claire Beltrami named as new Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services

Dear Millbrae Community,

On Friday July 31, during a Special Board Meeting, I am pleased to announce that our Board of Trustees approved Ms. Claire Beltrami as our new Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.  For the past four years, Claire served as Elementary Principal of Lomita Park Elementary where she led staff in embracing new innovations with technology and curriculum that supported students in many areas.  Prior to joining the Millbrae School District, Ms. Beltrami served as Elementary Principal within the San Bruno Park School District and both classroom teacher and instructional reform facilitator within the San Francisco Unified School District.

Mr. Phayprasert will replace Ms. Linda Luna who served as superintendent for five years prior to leaving the district last month to assume duties as Superintendent of the Washington Unified School District in West Sacramento.

Taylor Middle School Updates 12/8/14

Greetings Taylor Families;

Like everyone else in the Bay Area, Taylor Middle School has been managing to work around all of our much-needed rain.  Planning a safe lunch for 900 excited students has been challenging, but because our students are incredibly flexible and easy-going, we’ve been able to provide many options to stay out of the rain.  Actually, it’s the keeping out of the rain that may be the most difficult.  Who doesn’t like a good splash in a big puddle? Or the opportunity to stand under water pouring off the eaves?  The real wet ones are sent home.  Karen Lotti opens the gym for basketball or volleyball.  The library is staffed as an additional place to stay dry. Miss K opens the classroom for board games, and best of all, we’ve got our beautiful cafeteria that can house the whole student body if necessary.

Hi, Taylor Families,

We want to send a great big shout out to all the Taylor students that participated in the Peace Poster Contest sponsored by the Millbrae Lions Club. As we look forward to our Halloween Parade on Friday, we want to review our costume policy.  Basically, students who want to participate will need to be wearing appropriate clothes.  Students wearing costumes that are gory, involve any kind of weapon, offensive, are suggestive, too short or revealing,  will need to leave their costume in the office and will be asked to wear PE clothes.  As our children get older, there are many opportunities for them to wear something a little daring.

The Trustees have approved a program by which each Board Member will be associated with a particular campus.  This connection will be defined between the Trustee and the Principal in terms of time commitment and suggested activities. The County Office of Education has been assisting the district in finding a good, solid interim principal to support the school and district during this transition time. This past Wednesday, the Board discussed and met a potential candidate that would be able to be our interim principal from February – June while we search for a permanent principal. 2015-2016 SCHOOL REGISTRATION

The general registration period for the 2015-2016 school year has now concluded.

Beginning August 17, 2015, please call your home school to schedule an appointment to bring in your completed registration packet and required documents to enroll your child.  Elementary school registration is dependent upon the student’s address and classroom space availability. If there is a lack of classroom space availability, your student will be placed on a waiting list for your resident school.  In the meantime, your student will be assigned to another school in the Millbrae School District with the available classroom space.  Registration paperwork, school boundaries and school phone numbers are all available on the Registration page.

Reporting Absences:  On the day your student is absent, please notify the Taylor office by 10:00 a.m. by phone at 650-697-4096.  For your convenience, you can leave a message 24 hours a day/7 days a week.Please provide the following information:

Student name and grade

Date(s) of absence

Reason for absence

Name of person reporting the absence, relationship to student, and a contact phone numberIf a student is out due to illness for three (3) or more days, they must submit a written doctor's note upon the student's return to school.
