Principal's Message

Hello Lomita Park Families!

I hope this newsletter finds you all well.  It’s hard to believe that in just a few short weeks, the school year will be coming to an end!  May has already been quite busy and the remainder of the school year will be no different.  Here are a few updates for May 2018

SHOUT OUTS & THANK YOU’S:

THANK YOU to the PTA and all our families for spoiling the Lomita Park staff during Staff Appreciation week!  Your generosity is very much appreciated.

A special SHOUT OUT to Mrs. Mondani for all she does for our staff and students each day!  The Lomita Park family is very lucky to have you!

SCHOOL NEWS:

At the end of the school year, Mrs. Paula Kelly and Mrs. Cindy Reeves will be retiring.  Mrs. Kelly has been teaching in the Millbrae School District for over 20 years and has been at Lomita Park for the past 4 years. Mrs. Reeves has been an instructional aide with the Millbrae School District since 1989.  We thank both of these ladies for so many years of dedication to the kids of Millbrae.  Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Reeves…. Enjoy your retirement!  We will miss you!

Congratulations to Mrs. Julie DiMaio and Mrs. Michele Brock as they move into new roles for the 2018-19 school year in the Millbrae School District!  Mrs. DiMaio will serve in the roll of NGSS TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment).  She will be supporting teachers throughout the Millbrae School District with the implementation of Next Generation Science Standards.  Mrs. Brock will serve in the roll of Student Services TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment).  She will be supporting students and families at Lomita Park.

This month Lomita Park’s focus is on TREATING SCHOOL PROPERTY WITH RESPECT.  Teachers have taught lessons to their students about how to treat school property, particularly the computer lab, playground equipment and lunch tables respectfully. On Wednesday, May 23 all Lomita Park students will attend our fourth and final PBIS Bucket Filler Assembly where more students will be recognized for being “Bucket Fillers” and receive awards.

CAASPP Testing continues for all 3rd – 5th Graders at Lomita Park until May 25.  Students will be tested in English Language Arts and Math, and 5th grade students will also be tested in Science.  Please do not schedule any appointments during the school day for this testing window, as it is very important that all students are in attendance.

The Millbrae School District is implementing a new Kindergarten schedule beginning in the 2018-19 school year.  Kindergarten students will attend school from 8:15 – 1:45 each day next year.  Transitional Kindergarten hours will remain 8:15 – 1:15. Please feel free to reach out should you have any questions.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Open House & Spring Music Concert

Wednesday, May 23 is Open House at Lomita Park.  We hope you will come visit your child’s classroom and view all of their hard work!  The schedule for that evening is:

5:30 – 6:00        New Family Information

6:00 – 6:15        Welcome for ALL families in the MUR

6:15 – 7:00        Classrooms Open

Please remember that the following Friday, May 25 is an early dismissal day.  All students will be dismissed at 12:15pm.

Friday, May 25 is Lomita Park’s Music Concert.  The concert is from 8:30-10:00 in the MUR.  We hope you will join us to watch your children perform and listen to some beautiful music.  It promises to be a great show!

Morning Drop Off and Afternoon Pick UP

When you are dropping off or picking up, please use the entrance on San Anselmo.  If you are parking, please do not use the staff parking lot, block driveways or double park.   Please remember that the small parking lot is for staff use only

When driving near school, please drive slowly and keep your eyes up.  Drive slowly and cautiously, put your phone down, and keep your eyes up because over 300 of your child's friends are walking to and from their houses and cars.

PTA News

The Lomita Park PTA will be holding elections for new PTA officers in May.  This is an excellent way to get involved at school and support your child’s education.  If you are interested in running for a PTA Board position, please contact PTA President, Sohaila Hernandez, at lomitaparkpta@gmail.com .

The next PTA General Membership meeting will be on May 21 at 6:30pm.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our World’s Finest Chocolate Sales Fundraiser!  It has been a huge success!  Your support is very much appreciated!

School Attendance

Your child’s attendance at school is VERY important!  Making sure your child is at school on time, EVERY day is one of the best ways to support them.  Studies show that regular attendance is directly related to success in school.  Please make sure to have your children at school on time (8:15) and that they are picked up on time as well.  Thank you!

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found is growing!  Please stop by the lost and found in the MUR and claim any items that are your child’s.  Any items that are left, will be donated to the Good Will on Wednesday, June 6.
